Its not in the best of shape but I couldn't pass up this 1903 Noah Webster Dictionary. Its huge and when I got home and opened it up it was filled with the most wonderful illustrations. here's just one of birds and for only a buck, how could I pass it up!
But this was the find of the day.I first thought it was a bell. When I got it home just cleaned it up a bit and found out its a antique baby rattle and its Sterling silver. Theres a place to put the babies time date and weight on it. Isn't this the cutest thing. Guess how much? You'll never believe only 50 cents. WooooooooooHooooooooooo. I found some other cool stuff but my camera battery is dead! As I had mentioned I was unable to reach one of the winners so I redrew a number

Wow! Wish I could have gone with you!!!! Those are some awesome finds on the very thrifty side!!a
I never find neat stuff at yardsales!! I am so jealous!
Wonderful treasures you found. And such unbelievable prices! Happy collecting...
Nice finds... and I thought my 1940 Websters for a buck was a good find!
Hey, I went g-sale-ing today too, but all I found was a solid wood frame to alter, but it was a great buy at 50 cents! These are awesome! That baby rattle is really cool, but I have to ask regarding the dictionary..do you actually use those illustrated pages, or will you scan them and make copies? I always have a hard time deciding whether to use the original. For example, I just got some WWII ration stamp books at an auction, I really want to use them in a piece, but I'm not sure they'll scan real well, either, so I'm kinda in a quandry whether to actually use them or not.Sigh. The hardships we endure as artists..lol.
Oh, you are one lucky gal - that dictionary with all the cool illustrations and the baby rattle! I've never seen anything like that. I can't believe they sold it for 50 cents!
Congrats to Karen - that cuff is to die for!
Whoa, Lynn, what a score!!! Those are fabulous!!!
I know you will put that dictionary to good use. The cover is really cool and the pages will make great bg and collage pieces. The rattle/teething ring is so cute. I still have mine (vintage?) like that and the ones from my kids, too.
Congrats to Karen! Your new goodies are fabulous.
Debby

Good job Lynn! Great find. Lucky dog. Riki
Hi Lynn,
Oh, I collect the old dictionaries too...in fact, I found three today at the thrift store for $1.00 a piece.
And believe it or not I used to have a baby rattle just like that one..I think it was given to my mom when my older sister was point [almost 60 years ago]. What a great price!
I came to visit you from Button Floozies..you were asking me about a reference for the Mother of Pearl buttons.
If you can't Google any results then I'd suggest your bookstore....Books a Million, Barnes & Nobles, Borders..whichever you may have...there are usually a lot of reference books on vintage stuff since it's all become so popular.
If I run across anything I'll come by to tell you. Meanwhile drop by for a visit when you have the time.
Have a wonderful day,
Stephanie ♥

Great finds and for a dollar and a half you can't go wrong. If you found something like this here it would cost you a fortune. Another thing I like about the States!

Oh my, both your finds are treasures!
I have the identical baby's teething ring that I got at an estate auction. The book with the illustrations? What a fountain of resources!
Sue:)
WOW - what a treasure!
I too thought it was a bell at first and as I'm a bell collector it grabbed my interest immediately! (I've got 10 little bells, so I don't know whether that counts as a collection)!!
Then I thought it was a baby's teething ring and now you've confirmed it's a rattle.
The white part is the teething ring.
So glad you appreciate it and look forward to seeing a pic of it all shined up!
Awesome find on that dictionary. Ever want to part with it, let me know LOL!
Smiles~
Marilyn
